One of the best ways to positively impact the lives of deserving animals without adopting is through fostering and providing temporary homes. Becoming a foster family is a significant way to pay it forward and truly makes a difference in the lives of these animals who otherwise may not have had a chance. Foster families provide shelter, food, care, love, and guidance for animals, and for some of these animals, they are the first to provide loving and safe environments to dogs and cats.
Fostering animals helps to save so many lives
The most crucial reason why fostering animals is essential is that it helps to save the lives of deserving cats and dogs. Since many shelters and rescue organizations have capacity limits that overflow quickly, the terrible decision to euthanize animals due to overcrowding becomes a harrowing reality. Foster families provide temporary safe homes for these animals who would otherwise have their days numbered. For many animals, the opportunity to live with a foster family is their way of finding a forever home.
Animals can develop essential social skills in foster homes
Life on the streets or in overcrowded shelters can be incredibly stressful and scary for dogs and cats. As such, survival mode kicks in, and they may not develop the social skills needed to interact as normal pets would. In a loving and safe foster home, these deserving dogs and cats can develop the essential social skills they need to become well-adjusted and adaptable, making them more desirable for adoption.
Foster families provide much-needed relief to overcrowded shelters
Shelters that become overcrowded are stressful environments for all and can quickly lead to anxiety and behavioral challenges, making socialization a nightmare. Foster families help alleviate the stress and anxiety of the animals by offering safer, quieter, and more comfortable settings while also helping to reduce the strain on shelters that save as many animals as possible. It’s nearly impossible for each animal to get the attention and help they need and deserve at overcrowded shelters. Foster homes provide healthy environments that are much better for dogs or cats that have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect.
Thank you for supporting Last Chance Animal Rescue
Last Chance Animal Rescue (LCAR) is a charitable, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was created to save the lives of animals. LCAR rescues animals located in “kill” facilities and underwrites the costs of relocating them to “no-kill” facilities and foster homes in hopes of finding them a forever family.
Foster families are the front line for animals in need, providing a temporary living situation while awaiting placement in their permanent homes. Thank you to all the incredible fosters who have supported LCAR over the years and helped save thousands of deserving animals. We are grateful for our dedicated community of adopters, fosters, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters. Without you, we could not achieve our life-saving mission, and it is incredible to see our community continue to make a difference, helping animals find homes on Long Island and beyond.
