As an injury attorney I spend a lot of time getting to know people. I often meet them during a very difficult time in their life, and I do my best to help them get to a better place. In my off hours, instead of helping people, I do my best to help animals during difficult times in their lives; I think it’s important for you to know that there’s a way you can help save animals and get them to a better place as well.
As pro bono counsel to Last Chance Animal Rescue (LCAR), I know that they are currently in desperate need of foster families. Foster families are vital as they provide animals a temporary place to stay while permanent homes are arranged. Foster families provide shelter, food, care, love, and guidance. Most foster pets only need placement for a couple of weeks before permanent homes are made available, and the time you give them allows more animals to be saved from kill shelters.
Fosters have 5 responsibilities they must fulfill. Fosters must:
- Provide a safe, clean, and caring environment for the animal.
- Provide food, water, exercise and socialization as appropriate.
- Monitor any medical and/or behavioral problems and provide any medications as directed.
- Assist with transport to/from Adoption Events.
- Participate in helping LCAR find a family for the animal.
While there are no financial rewards for fostering, you WILL get paid in kisses, long cuddles, and adventures. You will be the reason that animal is still alive, and knowing that is priceless. Fostering can be an excellent lesson for children in selflessness, and charitable giving as well.
By opening your home to a foster animal you allow LCAR to continue saving lives.
Foster parents are unselfish, caring, loving, patient people and without them the rescue system could not work.
