Top 10 Car Accident Checklist for your Glovebox

  1. Move your car to a safe location. Do not get out of your car if it is not safe and never stand in between cars.
  2. Call the police. Even if the other person tries to persuade you not to. People always seem to change their story after they leave the accident scene.
  3. Obtain the other driver’s license and insurance information.
  4. Take pictures of all involved cars. Include the license plates, car damages and the accident scene.
  5. Obtain names and contact information of all witnesses. Do NOT rely on the police to do this, they often do not.
  6. Report accident to your insurance company. Explain how the accident occurred and if you have any pain.
  7. Do NOT speak to the other person’s insurance company. They are not on your side and will look for ways to find you at fault.
  8. Seek immediate medical attention for any pain. It is very important to document your injuries.
  9. Complete a No-Benefits Application form. If you were injured, you have 30 days to do this.
